From my perspective, you sound like you are confused about what you want. You are either pro-marriage or not... and some of what you listed comes with the territory regardless of which "society" you marry into.
If you don't believe marriage is for you, that is one thing. However, the way you carry on sends the message that you are in fact unhappy about being single. Have you ever heard "thou protest too much"?
It's in your best interest to open your mind and gain perspective, and THEN decide firmly what it is you want, and be happy with it. Otherwise you will only see the downside of everything.
I am pro-marriage, however, not in this society. I see the "upside" of things too, however, it seems that today, the downside outweighs the upside.
Once upon a time there was a handsome young price and an equally beautiful young princess. The prince asked the princess, “If you will kiss me and consent to marry me, I will give you your heart’s desires for the rest of your life.” The princess pondered these things in her heart, and after a few minutes told him, “I am sorry, but I shall not kiss you, nor consent to marry you.”
And so, the prince bought a Harley to ride. In fact he rode Harleys most the rest of his life. And he went hunting, camping and fishing whenever he pleased. He sat around in his underwear on weekends smoking cigars and watching sports from the couch, ate what he wanted and when he wanted, played poker with the guys and as he got older dated women half his age. He left the toilet seat up as he pleased and even had money left over from his paychecks at the end of the month.
Other people's downsides will have nothing to do with you. Upsides and downsides are completely unique to any relationships you are ever in.
No I am pretty sure the millions of men complaining about child custody, divorce laws, and dating norms view it the same way as me. However, if someone else has another downside then they are more than welcome to share it.
