It's ridiculous for a guy to think that a woman owes him sex for paying for her meal.
It's ridiculous for a woman to expect that a man should always foot the bill.
It's not lose-lose anymore if we change the expectations

It's also ridiculous for a man to think a woman isn't interested in him because she wants to split the bill.
That's because some people are stuck with an antiquated view of society. So if we change that...
You can change your own views, but there's no changing other peoples views.
I still know quite a few men who ALWAYS pay for dates, I'm not changing their minds. I also know a lot of women who refuse to let a man pay for them.
Interestingly, it seems the closer men and women stick to 'traditional' dating norms, the more successful they are at dating. I have a feeling that if I just let a guy pay for me I'd have much better luck.
Ok. You have a guy friend that thinks paying for first dates is the gentlemanly thing to do. How do you convince him otherwise? Sit him down and explain that all women are gold diggers and that he should stop paying even a penny for the women he asks out? I don't try to change my friends views, they have them for a reason.
As for the citation, I'm going off of personal experience. Girly girls (ewww, sports!!) and gentlemanly men seem to have better luck in dating. The guys I know that demand splitting of checks and 'equality' seem to have issues, and women like me (ya know, the ones who don't necessarily subscribe to gender norms) seem to have issues also. Not to say they're always single, but they don't seem to have the luck that people who stick to traditional dating norms seem to have.

Then please explain how you can change other people's views.
