I went to a coffeeshop today thinking I was going to study there but I just ended up feeling uncomfortable and left. There was a group of just old men there and I don't know if they were staring at me or if I was just unnecessarily feeling self conscious but it literally made me leave.

Sometimes I don't really feel comfortable in public places. Bizarre? I think I'd be okay if I were there with a group of friends or something, but just sitting there and studying by myself (amidst the people talking, the bad music, etc.) just didn't work out. I suppose I could have been more confident in my ability to focus and stayed but I switched to sitting outside and then I just left when I couldn't stand the ridiculous music they were playing... I guess I just don't like being around people much.

Maybe I just felt like people were staring at me but they werent really. I don't know because I didn't really look back, I just felt really uncomfortable the whole time... I just want to be free of these kinds of things.

Is that weird of me? Or does anyone else feel the same way?

that doesn't sound weird at all, it sounds like social anxiety, a lot of people experience it, including myself. Talk to your doctor about getting medication or therapy for anxiety. The right treatment plan can make big difference.

lol I probably shouldn't have posted this anyway. I just went to a coffeeshop that didnt jive with me. There are plenty of other places I go to and I'm fine. I disagree that I have social anxiety or medication/therapy for it. Everybody is so quick to jump the gun, label everything as something, and suggest some combination of medication/therapy/whatever.

You are 24 years old. Isn't that the average age of people who hang out in coffee shops? Surely so in college towns. That's just where young people go. What music was weird? They usually play the music that appeals to the age group that patrons the place.

Living in the north west, hanging in coffee shops is the culture. Everyone does it young and old. Kinda fun actually. Good luck to ya........

Yea I don't know I guess it's annoying when you're trying to study and everyone else is chatting away. I ought to not try to study in coffee shops anymore.

It was some island/tropical music.... was getting on my nerves while I was trying to concentrate. Imagine trying to focus and having beach music playing in the background. I mean, it would have been great if I was just hanging out but today was just a bad day to try to study in a coffee shop.

Doesn't sound abnormal in an isolated incident.

I generally didn't like studying in those environments when I was in college. Too many distractions between music, conversations, background noises, etc.
