No worries, and actually aside from the "language police", there are plenty of us "Cali-fornians" who do call it "Cali", especially online where it's simply "easier" (like IMHO, BTW, 'L.A.', etc..... although there are probably a few "anal retentives" who fret about those too)! And it's a free country, so talk the way you wanna talk!
As far as the OP, have (fortunately) never been "deceived" (at least not for very long), and my sense is that the folks who are, have often simply been ignoring all the "evidence" and "clues", likely due to wearing the proverbial "rose-colored glasses", for one reason or another.
Perhaps. I think in my case it was youth and lack of experience. Also I trust people until they prove me wrong. People don't gain their trust with me, I start off trusting them from the start. Although I'm a lot more cautious than I used to be 12 years ago, I am still trusting this way.
Hmmmm been deceived a few times. By friends who stabbed me in the back. Lucky for them I know how to forgive. I will not ever forget though. I keep my enemies close so I can keep an eye on them. My ex seemed to love me until I got pregnant with his child. Then left me. Co-workers have talked about me, and I found out. But I don't *****-foot around....I confronted them right there and then.
Now about good deception:
I had a surprise Christmas party for me by my friends. This was the year I was pregnant.
A surprise baby-shower by my co-workers.
A trip to Vegas(which I tell everyone to go!!! And I swam with tropical fish!)
My son was invited to March Madness out of 30 kids!
And many more!
I think we take the good and the bad in this life. Thankfully although you had experienced some back-stabbing and betrayal, you also have some great friends as well.

Have you ever been completely and utterly deceived by someone? I'm not just talking about cheating, I'm talking about a person who lied and completely misrepresented her/himself to you? Here you thought that you have a good judgement of people just to find out you were completely fooled? I just ran across the memory of this type of person in my life and still have a bad taste in my mouth thinking about it.
Oh good lord, YES! In fact, it has happened twice to me in the past three years, damn it!!!
I used to pride myself on being a good judge of character. In recent times, I have come to realize that my radar for such judgment is completely and utterly off!!
I'm amazed the extent unscrupulous people will go to these days to fool good folks.
In old times, there were more bunnies than snakes. Nowadays, there seems to be are pit vipers everywhere!!!!!
