do you get scared or uncomfortable when you sense that a guy is staring you down in a predatory way?
I really don't get scared or uncomfortable. I notice it but that's all. The reason is, I think, because I've spent some time in countries where men stare or shout things at women on a regular basis, plus in those countries I have been conspicuous so sometimes it seemed everyone was staring at me. I've learned to find it funny, not offensive.
....Women my age like to play games and sometimes they look away if you try to make eye contact- the whole "playing hard to get" thing (which is BS, and I refuse to play back.)
She may not be playing games with you, she may be just shy.
To the OP's question. Yes, I would feel uncomfortable and very confused, thus as a response to this stare down, to greet the man with the meanest mug.
...just looking at them DOES NOT WORK. Well, not in MY age group. If I look at her and I like what I see, I'll go over regardless of whether she "looks" like she wants to talk. Just make an approach... sheesh. If she isn't into going home with you (if that's what you're after), she might be down for introducing you to a woman who is, or she might know a really nice woman who would suit you better. Female "wingmen" are awesome.
you are not getting it, when you look in a woman's eyes you can usually tell, whether she means to tell you or not, whether she is at least open to you coming over and saying hi, that's all i am saying.
Predatory implies creepy and stalkerish behavior, and I feel creeped out if that is the case. Can't say that it has happened often though.
