My husband and I are recently retired (well, a year retired). I am not a golfer; he is. All I want to know, is 5 to 6 rounds of golf a week excessive in your opinion? Please don't tell me to take up the sport. I'm not interested. I wouldn't even complain over 3 rounds a week, but 5 to 6?

I suspect it would depend on your income and what he did for a living while he was working. I think once you retire you should be able to do some of the things you wanted to do, but couldn't when you were working. There are so many things worse than 5 or 6 rounds of golf that he could be doing, I would consider myself lucky if I were you. I would consider this his just reward for providing me with a decent living while he was working. I take it, you didn't go hungry... BTW I hate golf, for me personally it would be a huge waste of time.

Are you talking about 18-hole rounds? Year around or just during the summer months?

To me it sounds high, but I'm not him. My son probably does close to that and he's not retired, but his wife took up golf too, so they enjoy it together. It's become the hub of their social life, traveling to play golf when they can in the winter, usually with friends and/or family, and playing regularly on their course in the summer. (They have a home on the course.) My son sponsors/organizes an invitational and his wife co-chairs a charity tournament. I won't suggest that you try it.

But what is it you'd rather he was doing those hours?

Is he not doing his fair share of household chores or what?

Golfing is decent exercise and a good social pastime.

It is a good walk, it is good activity. Being active once you're retired is great.

But there's other things to keep you active in life.

If you're just golfing, that's going to get really boring really fast, especially for her if she doesn't care for it, which she doesn't.

Anything over an hour a week at the driving range is too much for me

My advice, take up traveling to different golf courses around the country...and hit up the Spas at each place while he chases little white balls

My ex husbands Dad used to play golf almost every day. His wife took up tennis, so they were both happy.
Find a hobbie that you will enjoy too!

Not uncommon here in Florida. Many live right on the golf coarse and golf daily. I would suggest that you find your own hobby. When he worked he wasn't home was he? There are alot worse
things he could be doing with his time. I'd let him enjoy himself, I doubt that he will be golfing
5 times a week in a few years, nature will take its course.

Enjoy your retirement, it's now or never!

OP, the truth is that, while he probably loves you, he probably doesn't enjoy being around you for more than a certain number of hours per week. For him, golf is a great way to get out of the house and do something he enjoys with his friends.
