Why is modern Western society so sensitive that it's often construed as being gay? Especially if you use adjectives such as 'hot' or 'sexy', instead of just 'handsome' or 'good looking', but even if you comment using those words sometimes. I'm not one to really make such comments about either gender much, but I find it interesting how I frequently hear straight women talking about other women being 'hot' and 'sexy' and yet their sexuality is never questioned. Whereas if I, as a straight man, observed that another man was 'sexy' it would imply that I was attracted to him?

My brother who is straight can admit when a guy is a stud. It doesn't mean that he wants to sleep with him. He's just hating on him...

Out of jealousy, you mean?

Trimac, you are in Aussie right? I think your OP very much applies to downunder. You simply cannot compliment another guy with those adjectives, or handsome etc, without getting construed as being gay.
Not so much the case in parts of Europe.

It does seem to be viewed in a slightly homophobic manner if a guy comments favorably on another guy's appearance.

I have had conversations with other guys where they say that they cannot tell at all if a man is good looking or not. I frankly do not believe this.

I will comment on whether a man is good looking or not. I would use the words attractive, handsome, or good looking. Hot or sexy (sexy seems so 1970's to me) to me implies that I feel a sexual attraction to them based upon their looks, which I do not. In my experience, women who use the term hot in reference to other women have tended to be somewhat bisexual. YMMV.

That is stupid. A man is just as aware of the attractiveness of other men as women are. It's important information to know as part of the dynamics of dating in a world where sizing up and competing with other males is often a big part of getting the date. I'm sure only a doofus would consider George Clooney on the same level as say, John C. Reily, unless he had unusual preference.

As for your last sentence, I totally disagree. Women often compliment their friends and also notice other women and say they are 'hot' and 'sexy', more as in an 'objective' way, and these are women who as far as I know are totally straight. I notice it's a thing with teens/people in their early 20s as well. 'Hot' has just become a general term for being attractive. My sister always says such and such a celeb is 'hot' yet she professes to be disgusted by male or female homosexuality (at least as far as I've heard her say, lol).

I wouldn't say "as women are" because straight women see men sexually, but if you mean that a man is aware of the attractiveness of another man, as women are other women, then you are correct.

I agree that is is stupid. Nonetheless, many guys state this.

Your experience on the use of hot may be different than mine. Generational, regional, whatever. It is really not a big deal.

I think that we both agree that women are definitely much more expressive about another woman's looks than men are.

I don't really call guys 'sexy' or 'hot' becasue simply I don't find them sexy or hot being a straight guy, but I don't have any problems calling someone handsome or good looking.
