We always had cats growing up because my dad hated dogs (still does, actually.) To him, dogs are loud, messy, and high-maintenance.

Like somebody upthread said, gay guys are sexually attracted to other dudes. If a guy has a cat, wears a pink shirt, hates sports, but is totally into the ladies, he's not gay.

LOL, add owning a cat to the long list of things men can't do without being seen as gay or at least not manly enough. Apparently, unless you're constantly wearing blue jeans and a cowboy hat while crushing a beer can on your head, firing a rifle into a deer and kicking your dog you're at least kind of girly. :P

The whole stigma around cats and single guys is one of the most ridiculous, insane, yet COMMON misconceptions among the younger crowd I've ever heard. It's so ridiculous that I actually find it kind of funny and revolting at the same time. Problem is, before I volunteered at animal shelters I used to think the same way. Based on my 2 years of volunteering, I have seen only slightly more single women adopting cats than single men. Between those two demographics, it is very near equal. Women tend to be more vocal about it and treat the cat as their baby, whereas men just like having an animal that takes care of itself and wants to play with things here and there.

It's also worth noting that way out in the suburbs we had a very hard time finding people to adopt cats and the dog adoptions outpaced them about 5 to 1. When I volunteered at a shelter in the city, cats were actually adopted more often than dogs.

Fun anecdote: one day a VERY stereotypical Harley Davidson tough guy came walking into the shelter with his wife. They had brought their two cats for euthanization due to age. He was crying like a baby when he let them go. She wasn't really all that upset about it. Just something to think about

A real masculine guy can pull off having a cat. It's really fine. Would you rather he have a little yappy dog? ick.

Real Men Love Cats. I think it's hot.

Funny, as a child I thought all cats were girls and all boys were dogs. Now???? I love a man that can love a cat! Tremendous patience and loving without expecting the world to revolve around HIM! Here, kitty, kitty........ ;-)

Of course you don't have to be gay to own cats - when I was child I used to spend the summers in my relatives' farm and they had cats, but in the context of a single man living in an apartment I can see how she might have though that, even if it's doesn't have to be the case.
Thank you. It's just usually I see single men with dogs, like pitbulls, german shephards, etc. And I've always heard a lot of straight men say they hate cats for various reasons. I don't know maybe I am wrong about this guy, but still, I would never date a single man who owned a cat. Its a bit too wussy and feminine for me. And I am not an animal lover anyway.
