..we continually make good and bad choices in our lives across the board...there are no guarantees that every choice will work out...if there is a legitimate and genuinely positive interest or opportunity, I say go for it...don't fall into the trap of a self fulfilling prophecy...life is full of good and bad surprises...it's how we learn what works and what doesn't...if you are an adult and find someone appealing , why not check it out...fun or commitment...at the best, it works...at the worst it doesn't....there are no guarantees against hurt...or, for that matter for a happy ending...life is an ongoing learning adventure...full of both bad and good experiences...if you're lucky.
I think his point was that dating someone who just finished high school and heading to college in a week wasn't a turn-on for him, age-wise...
This mostly.
When I was 18 heading into Target to furnish my first dorm I was SALIVATING and sexually excited to see all the hot 18/19 year old chicks in groups, I even approached some of them, to practice socializing more than anything.
Now that I'm 24 the groups of 18/19 year old women at Target don't turn me on or stimulate an approach from my end.
I am 22 and will be 23 in a few months. In my college class there are a lot of 18 year olds fresh out of high school. Some of them are cute but I think that I am more mature. Ive been out of high school for 4 years and they just graduated. I feel like I have nothing in common with 18 year olds anymore. I am older and more mature than them.
So...off the subject, but...any opinions about whether or not...besides sexual turn on, dating or looking for a life partner, can any 18 years olds be considered as possiblly worthwhile friends for older men or women?
Was having an interesting convo with my friends the other day and they didn't seem to have a problem with it. I'm indifferent towards the whole thing, I'm on the fence to be honest, not sure if I could do it or not. One of my boys is 26, and he's seeing a 19 year old...she looks mature enough but I'm not sure. She's not old enough to drink.
Obviously it's a question of the mental maturity of both parties.
But having met many 18/19 year olds (and having been one myself), and having met many mid-20 year olds, I think it'd usually be weird. More for the two people involved than anything else. The 25 year old has a job, has to deal with real life stuff... the 18 year old is probably in college and still young mentally.
I think the (Age/2)+7 rule is the best.
If a man in his 30's can date a woman in her 20's then why not?
I'm 26 and I've had better luck going older than younger -- like 27-33.
I feel 18-20 is a bit too young since they haven't hit the legal drinking age yet. Some are incredibly attractive but there is this fear of an attachment to an older man that I really wouldn't want to get myself into.
I feel girls hit a stage between 23-26 that makes them these self absorbed, materialistic demons. It's the post college yet not quite adulthood category. Not all are like this, but I feel they are just more about binge drinking and banging dudes within the same friends circle instead of going out and meeting someone genuine.
The ones that can come out of that phase, still dress well, look hot, and I can make laugh in the late 20s bracket is my target audience.
Of course once you hit girls that are around 30, you have to watch out for the ones who are trying to get "wifed up" ;-)
I couldn't imagine dating 18 or 19 year olds, and I'm 22. It would be like dating a child. They sure are fine to look at though.
