People who are unadventurous about food tend to be unadventurous about life and kind of uptight.

I want to be able to say, "Hey, let's try this new vietnamese place," and not get moans or groans.

I might differ. People are adventurous about different things. Some might be adventurous with their palates. Others might be adventurous about kayaking or music or burning up the sheets.

Personally, when I hear the words "Korean" and "Cuisine" in the same sentence, my automatic gag reflex has to be suppressed. I've eaten Korean several times, from locally to supposedly hoity-toity spots, and it's all the same to me. I prefer not to eat something that looks as if it belongs in my tackle box, thanks. But no one has ever accused me of being unadventurous.

Got to agree.

Not to pick on our OP about her "pickiness" , but this really is a maturity thing.

Not sure her actual age, but hoping for her sake she'll grow into being able to focus on the things that really matter so that she won't be so alone the rest of her life

That's kind of a broad generalization, it only SOMETIMES works out that way.

Everyone has some food they don't like. I don't really care for Italian or Mexican. I think the flavor palate is boring and at times overwhelming and boring at the same time. There is not a rule that says you have to like every food you ever eat.
The difference is that I will TRY just about anything without being a big baby about it. That's what's hard to respect - the part where they are a big baby about it. There is almost something immature, xenophobic, and provincial about the whole thing and that is very unattractive.
Frankly, I have met very few people who are adventurous anywhere else in their lives (except maybe sleeping around adventurous, if you want to call that adventurous) where that sense of adventure didn't permeate pretty much all aspects of their lives. Note that I said adventurous and not reckless.

Ha...that is just because everyone likes to think they are adventurous and no one likes to think they are uptight.

Just like everyone thinks they are a good driver or have a sense of humor.

This is a fantastic thread. I never really thought of this. I truly feel it would be difficult dating someone who is a vegetarian because of the restaurant choices I make, though I am absolutely open to learn to cook and try. Someone who blatantly doesn't eat healthy speaks volumes as well.

I'm a curious soul who has tried a lot of crazy foods and would like to experience with said significant other. I see a lot of roadblocks in the future.

Plenty of adventurous folks will never want to eat quail eggs, dog meat or rooster balls because rarely will all things edible be appealing to the taste buds, palate or sensibilities.

And not eating those foods (which I won't) doesn't mean I won't go sky diving, whitewater rafting on class V rapids or zip lining a mile off the ground in Costa Rica
