There is nothing wrong with your type. But when your type is the only type portrayed in the media at all, it isn't very representative of all of the variety inherent in black women. I am sure at your family reunion there are women with all kinds of looks in all kinds of hues. And unfortunately if you are darker than let's say Whitney Houston, you are invisible in the media: either in Hollywood in movies and films, or in fashion on magazine covers, in fashion spreads or on the runway.

Get over the hate of your own dark skin
yeah it's so easy to just "get over it" typical response from someone who isn't affected by this issue at all

Love Estelle! Her first album felt like the missing Lauryn Hill album to me.

Love this song too:

I don't hate my own dark skin and was offended by the suggestion that I do. If I could change it tomorrow I would not, b/c I learned about people from it.

Was I even responding to you? You people have some serious issues about your skin.

You weren't responding to me but then say 'you have some serious issues about your skin' -- based on what? That I'm discussing it?

I don't have any issues at all with my skin tone, I have however had other people have issues with it and that's what I'm talking about.

I really like that vid as well. I don't think beauty is just a cookie cutter thing. Estelle has a vibe to her. It's the way she moves, tilts her head, it matters. One of the first things that attracted me to my husband was his gait. The way he stands, leans, walks. I find it very sexy. She has that. She's fit. Her eyes are deep. Less observant people will miss that I guess.
