If I were your mother, I would caution you that this could be a very dangerous thing to do. Please reconsider this behavior.
And real men with class don't throw up that middle finger either
Are you serious. Old dude, the middle finger is as American as apple pie and has been used by people of all classes throughout the history of the US. I think you might need to go back and read some biographies on early American presidents and how classy they were. lol. Sure, they probably didn't throw the middle finger, but your assertion that somehow men with class don't behave in that manner is absurd. Just look at American history and you'll see that mem in this country have long behaved in class-less ways (even the 'high class' people)

Frequent use indicates normalcy and isn't classless behavior????
Frequent use indicates normalcy and isn't classless behavior????
Behavior, and whether it is classless, is determined by the historical context in which it occurs. Therefore, if saying curse words was common in the 1800's, than that normalcy within that context means that it is not 'classless behavior.' Assuming, of course, that it was perceived as not being classless.
Cultural standards of behavior are constantly changing. THerefore, a particular behavior in one context could be considered classless while in another historical context it may not have been perceived as classless. You're using your modern wordview to classify what is classless, when that's irrelevant because it's the historical context that you ignore.
I have a bunch of pics of both my husband and I showing off our middle finger.
I have one on my profile picture here at this site lol....its all about the context its in. In my case it was a comedy show and giving the finger was one of the themes of the show. If done where you are clearly joking around and having a laugh, I don't see the problem.

I foolishly assumed since it's 2012, we'd use today's standards... I don't know when this thread became a historical dissertation on flipping the bird.......
As a young black guy, I tend to agree. A lot of my friends like to do wannabe gang signs whenever they are taking pictures. They aren't in gangs and don't run with folk who are. Better than the middle fingers (which i display often) I suppose.
Never in my life have I ever felt the need to flash my middle finger or throw some some stupid gang sign.
Last time I had a friend who liked throwing up gang signs, I was a freshman in high school. And shortly into my freshman year, he was no longer my friend.
If anything, this thread highlights fears that many people have about young black men. Let's be honest here.
But hey, I guess we're in a post-racial society. ( with a muslim president who was born in Kenya )
You are just trying to drag this into the mud aren't you??? See your types a million miles away.......
Turn this into a racial thing.....
Damn... that is some tired shyt.
