I agree. While people have been bisexual throughout history, I think the latest 'all women are bi' and 'real bi men do not exist' myth/trend is largely a result of the mass-consumption of pornography. Both how it portrays sexual relations (lesbian porn is considered 'straight' porn, as are threesomes involving two females) and how the female form is sexualized and eroticitized far more than the male form, which leads to both men and other women seeing them as sex objects.

I can relate to my own experience. As a naive teen, the more exposure you have to lesbian-themed pornography in general, especially in situations where an innocent straight girl is 'seduced' into sapphic pleasures, the more normal you think it is and the more you want to see it for yourself.

Of course I'm not saying women don't do if for pure enjoyment, but the fact it's not seen as much in men shows the double-standard that still exists. Most straight men would be aghast at the mere idea of kissing another man.

So all these supposed stats showing how many more bi women there are: an indication of a real phenomena, but also evidence that it is women who are being far more open about expressing their same-sex desire, which is partly natural but also conditioned by society, rather than men.

I think the very categories 'hetero, 'homo or 'bisexual as a system is sort of restrictive, a result of the need of Western science to divide people into set categories in order to study from them from a socio-cultural context.

The main purpose of libido is firstly for reproduction, but also as a way to release the latent energy - in this case sexual energy - in any way possible. That may be solo or with a partner or even partners or varying genders. These behaviours may be incidental and may not be as related to the primary object of desire. Women are seemingly more flexible in terms of choosing partners based on emotional criteria, while most men seem more 'one-tracked' and less open to the erotic experience but merely the 'hunt' so to speak. Men who are more open to the experience and the relationship, like women (who are probably more enlightened about sex and their own sexuality than many men) are more likely to be bisexual in my experience.

It has nothing to do with Western science. It has everything to do with Angloism and Puritanism. Other western countries aren't nearly as prude or as completely creeped out as being labeled "gay" or anything else.

Are George Bush and the Saudi King gay?

The problem with modern Western society is that ANY form of physical affection is interpreted as being sexual. This is a result of the repressive prudishness inherited from the Victorian era, but which has reached new heights of ridiculousness. There's nothing sexual about holding hands: couples do that to express fondness for each other. No reason why even adult friends, like parent and child, can do that without the sexual element. Ditto with kissing on the cheeks, being 'touchy', and the like. Women are more comfortable doing that precisely, I think, because they're not as afraid of getting wood from getting too close to their buddy.

It's only acceptable when the women are considered very beautiful and feminine looking, however if the women look butch then they are often ostracized
