Variety of reasons I'm sure, but it doesn't help that it doesn't really mean much in our society. Many people don't treat it as something special, having countless numbers of sexual partners and thinking the world needs to hear about it.
Sexuality should be a private matter. Its not today. Its also thrown on your face anywhere and everywhere. You can't even watch commercials anymore without something sexual being shown. Rather sad I think but that's just my opinion.
There's still a lot of puritanical influence in this country would be my guess. People are open to violence, but feel that sex is horrible. The influence of repressive churches in this country could be a big influence as well.

Well, that would certainly explain the small Roman Catholic families and childless Muslim families.
i never understood why some people call it overrated. most people can't live without it from my understanding. if it was so overrated, there would be no new births because no one would care about having it.

I'm a virgin at 24 going on 25 years of age. I don't think or feel it's overrated because I've never had it. Not sure what group of people happens to be saying this, but I akin to smoking - I've been told it's great, but I don't know what I'm missing since I've never had it.
Many people in the South and Bible Belt don't have sex because of their strong belief in intelligent design.
This manifests itself in young Baptists making pledges not to engage in vaginal sex.
