Sometimes not getting hurt takes precedence over being in the right. If a guy picks a fight with me and I hit back and then he pulls out a gun, being in the right is not worth being dead over.
I think the feminist movement has also made it worse with the constant pressure on women to compete, be strong, succeed, be happy, "have it all" etc. Women are more involved with men as part of this equation than ever and the fact is, a lot of men don't like women.
I also think learned helplessness due to the crappy diet Americans are instructed to eat, one that is high in vegetables and grains and low in saturated fat, has something to do with it. Women aren't balanced or healthy on this diet & are also dieting more than ever mostly to please men who think everyone should look like a supermodel when that really isn't natural or even healthy. God forbid that you would be "average" rather than a constantly happy real housewife who "has it all". Even those *****es seem unhappy.
I'd say the opposite is true. How many battered women shelters were there in "the good old days"? How often were women encouraged to leave their abusers 100 years ago? How often did they have the financial means to do so? Was spousal abuse openly discussed back then? Does that mean it didn't happen?
Chris Brown's continued success is disappointing to people who find his abuse a major character deficit. But I believe it has more to do with how we as a society value fame (and infamy) as opposed to acceptance of violence. People will accept a lot from people if they can make a movie, sing a song, or throw a ball.
I think your right. We see the same acceptance of celebs that abuse drugs. Somehow their behavior is excused, forgiven and even idolized. A regular person would be looked down on and criminalized. Same with divorce and having children out of wedlock. Although that has become acceptable for the general public now.
ALMOST all males can be and will be abusive in their immaturity. Hopefully young males will realize that their wives or girlfriends are not the mothers they attempted to boss around and manipulate- all abusive males are simply spoiled little brats and mummy boys. Boys who grow up to be big and strong who then use their superior physical power to bully with...There is the use of power- and there is the abuse of power...It is up to the male to understand that a real man does not bully woman- or other males- acting like a violent pig is a role that should be exclusive to nasty boys fixated on their overly coddling mothers.
This! My last relationship was with an abusive male. I’m sure you’ve seen the posts I’ve written in the past about dating a 36 year old man who still lives at home, whom his mother still calls when we’re on dates. That is him.
Honestly, it made me a weaker person. Since we’ve broken up I have gained so much of that strength back.
I don’t condone any man being abusive to any woman, or putting their hands on her. As a woman in her twenties who has experienced this, I feel this type of behavior to be unacceptable.
I’m pretty sure most of the girls who wrote these things are pretty young and immature. Chris Brown is a celebrity and people naturally flock to them.
Not at all. But if you think hitting your spouse because they say something you don't like is ever justifiable, you are not much of a man.
Both parties need not be so immature. Then the whole situation could be avoided.
