I wish I could meet women like Mooseketeer here in the US, even just for platonic female friendships. She is an example of what I was referring to several pages ago. I'm not saying there are no women (or people) like that here, but they seem harder to find (except for Ruth & Raena who I'd certainly go out with).

A lot of ignorance here. I'm wondering if some of you simply don't know any better, or if you're doing it intentionally?

I realize the article may just be one person's opinion and I'll take it with a grain of salt as I said earlier. What's more concerning is some of the responses to the OP. I guess some folks take exception or are resentful of the mere implication that another culture may be doing something better than their American counterparts, who apparently, must never be criticized

By far the best post of this thread. I agree with everything you said and I wish could find more people like you here in the USA. I am definitely DONE with American women, there is absolutely no reason on insisting on something that is sub-par in quality. You rock!

Completely baffled, amused and a little offended by some comments ! I do not think French women have any monopoly on how to have happy long lasting relationships, yes I do think French women ( European women generally) are less goal orientated however ( so many posts on this forum about the fact a woman would never date a guy who did not have money or a job or would never marry someone who did not spend a fortune on an engagement ring... which baffles me utterly I must admit) and NO French women are not hairy .

They have not been for decades. German and Nordic women are far more casual with shaving being more "natural" than French women in their outlook on beauty ( maybe those are the women people see on French beaches as the whole of Europe descends on them in the summer) which to be honest is fine anyway. As long as you are clean I don't see what the hysteria is about hair. I have always shaved and always will but that is my choice. I do not look at unshaved women and denigrate them for chosing a different path. How arrogant and superior would that be. As logn as you look after your personal hygiene that the hell is the fuss all about ?

French Women tend to pluck within an inch of their lives if anything and spend a fortune on personal hygiene products, cosmetics and other preening consumer goods. Pharmacies in France are almost as much about cosmetics, and hygiene products as about medication as anyone who has gone to France will know. French women would not be amused if you took away their myriad of products.

The vast majority of French women shave their armpits, legs and even arms, and depilate their upper lips too... I know some Americans think it is really funny to tell the world that we are dirty, lazy, stupid, arrogant and cheese eating surrender monkeys but some of us even wash ! Honest.

No Nation has a monopoly on doing things "right" IMO. Some French women do it wrong, some do it right, just like American, Finnish, Swedish, German, Italian, etc... women

As for Nudists being paedophiles and perverts, as some idiot posted that is grossly offensive and utterly stupid a comment to make. I am not a nudist, it is not for me.

However I have lived in countries where naturism is a natural thing and those people are the least perverted people I know.

Being open about your body ( something I will never be to my great chagrin, too many hang ups) is nothing to be ashamed of. Naturism is NOT about Sex, has never been. Prancing around in tiny bikinis or dressed up is slutty clothes is sexualising yourself. Being a Naturist is simply embracing what is natural and for those who believe in God , god given.

My Finnish friends have always had nude sauna sessions with friends and their kids and to accuse them of being perverts and paedophiles is not something I will accept and is beyond despicable, ignorant, judgemental and completely stupid.

Their kids are well rounded, balanced happy individuals who are loved and respected by their parents. I do not subscribe to Naturism but I will not let some moron with the IQ of mouldy pond slime insult and denigrate what he does not understand.

Personally I think what is perverted is the over emphasis on everything being about sex , sex being made to be some shameful dirty little secret we should be all ashamed of and s******ing about like five year olds behind a bike shed. What leads to moral decay is not Naturism but over sexualisation and an obsession with sex.

Considering that over 90% of porn is made in the US and Americans are some of its biggest consumers , this bastion of religious rectitude is obviously not coming out so well out of this me thinks....

Yes people in Europe are more mature about sex in Europe, we talk about it, and we are open about it, but to imply this makes us into perverts and paedophiles is beyond the pale.

The US has the highest incidence of STDs in the developed world apparently (and rising) and the most religious states within it also the highest in the country.

Gee I wonder why ?!?!? Is it because closing your eyes , your ears and going " na , na na I am not listening " and pretending people do not have sex and preaching abstinence instead of addressing the issue with decent sex education might be a little counter intuitive...

I wonder....

So spare me the crap about Scandinavian countries considering they have the lowest rates by far. As for teen pregnancies same thing. Apparently the US once again wins that medal. Western Europe also comes out of that issue a lot better.

Ignorance is dangerous and I wish some people would think before they spew a lot of garbage about topics they nothing about. Read a decent newspaper once in a while, watch a current affairs magazine, read some books and get your head out of your derriere and you might learn something.
Mod cut: Personal attack. I never saw anyone make any nasty comments about any European countries yet you and others are making nasty comments about Americans. Snip.

However, children and family members going to the sauna nude IS disgusting. I don't know anyone who think that's okay or would do something like that. Children here are also smart, happy and well adjusted so that also debunks your myth.

If Americans were truly "sexually repressed" then why would the media be so full of sexual content and the concept of "sexualization"?

I read the criticism of 'goal-oriented' American women as saying 'American women should stop being so entitled to certain things and follow their instincts', and I think this is 100% true of some American women.

Having travelled and met many French (European) women, yes as a whole they are more laid-back. I think part of the problem is stupid "Love yourself no matter what" messaging us Americans get. Whether it's our over-inflated sense of self-esteem to the stupid idiots who say "America is teh greatest country in the world!" no matter what we do, I think our culture can instill in people a misguided sense of entitlement.

Yes, there are a great many wonderful American women. But based on my experiences, there are certain aspects of European culture that lend to more normal and easy-going qualities.

So people should have no comment to such an article, they should just smile and nod?

This is for you and the other poster who says the French aren't so role obsessed. There have been several books written lately that touch on the differences in cultures. I'm not going to hijack the thread in a different direction, but France comes across as being much more rigid/role obsessed about parenting norms, doesn't really come across as easygoing at all.

I'm not in the dating world, but honestly nothing in the article seemed remotely familiar to me from when I was dating.

Exactly, the 400-pound women who think they are Big, Beautiful Women. I hear this typical BS coming from a lot of American women "Love me for who I am"- Suuuure! There is nothing wrong with them! This society has gone absolutely insane

Orphaned.

I actually had a big, long reply about why naked sauna sessions aren't perverted, but Mooseketeer pretty much summed it all up for me. Excellent post.
