How is it horrible? Help only works if HE wants it. Some people don't want help and some do. He may want to commit suicide but that doesn't mean he should take her with him.

He's a boy dealing with the death of his mother who doesn't know WHAT he wants

He needs adult intervention and professional help.

But of course, as his current girlfriend our young OP CARES about him. I'm sure the idea that he might harm himself is HORRIFYING to her.

You can't just tell her to let him go ahead and kill himself

Again, if you have nothing useful to say sometimes it's better not to say anything at all.

He's responsible for his own life, you're not. It won't be your fault. All you can do it tell him to get help, find a counselor (there are free clinics in some cities), or call a suicide hotline. The radical personality change could be due to depression, but that's not your concern. The "why" of it isn't your worry. You're lucky you have family that care about you enough to sit you down and call some things to your attention. The important thing for you now is to stay safe, and lean on your family for support. Best wishes.

Have you interviewed him to know what he wants? You are willing to just jump to a conclusion. She can only control herself. Concern yourself with the OP not me.
