Just wondering how long people knew their significant other before they married. I know that love can work itself out in a day or take many many years to develop. Just curious to see what the norm is.

Just friends time is definitely included, not just the courting/dating stage.

Reason I'm asking is --- does knowing someone through friends, work, etc have a higher probability of creating a lasting relationship vs someone kind of just popping up from nowhere and developing into a lifelong partner.

And again I realize love comes in both sizes, I'm just curious.

Know her?
Well, her older sister has been a good friend of mine since 1992.
But I only knew of her as a younger sibling - you know, the kind you kind of acknowledge and are friendly with but don't really get to know.

We started dating in 2005. Married in 2008.

Hope that answers your question.

Yeah so the question is how long did you know her, that doesn't mean just dating.

Just to clarify, know=awareness that this person existed. prob a terrible definition, but it makes sense in my mind.

Okay so I just realized I'm really asking two things in this question.

I mostly want to know how long people knew their future husband/wife before dating?

So maybe just answer this question by posting answers. Thanks

Secondarily I'm also now kinda curious to see how long it took to tie the knot?

I didn't know my husband before we started dating.

We dated for about 4yrs before getting engaged and were engaged for about a year and half before the wedding. 5 1/2 yrs total.

21 years. We started to live together about two months after we met. He proposed after 19 years. Married for 3 years now. Marriage has made no difference to us though IMO.
