New York City just happens to be a foodie paradise...so I never really expected to get good ethnic food here in Tampa...it just gets annoying when places outside of NY tout themselves as having NY style pizza or NY style chinese...it just never is anywhere near as good...I just want shake them and say "guys you have Florida pizza and chinese" just get over it!!
I do miss a few things from NY...but I'd probably be big as a house so it's good to miss things.
Pizza, bagels, Italian bakeries and deli's...drool!
I can't really eat the "southern fair" so while it might be yummy, it doesn't really matter to me. I had the WORST reaction yet the other night/morning and I didn't even EAT the beef...it was just cooked on the same grill as my food.
Somedays I swear I would be willing to sell my firstborn for a good NY cannoli!!!

Very few foods here can be considered 'southern', if you limited yourself to those you would be bored to hell with the choices in about a month.

I lived in Tampa for three years, I rarely ever would eat the pizza, gawd awful most of the time, have to say, I have found some Fl places that do have pretty good pizza, here in Sarasota and in Hollywood Fl.

Personally I don't confuse style with authentic and authentic doesn't necessarily mean it will taste good. We have NY style pizza here to which I interpret as thin crust.
Sorry New Yorkers, but NY style pizza isn't really anything special. It's just a big greasy slice.
Come to Chicago for good pizza
