Why do people know that you are a virgin anyway? Just tell them to mind their own business.
Random people dont need to know, but eventually the person in the relationship might need to know. As for the girls perspective, she would definitely have to say something.
I think it is easier for guys to be virgins and than girls. A guy can hide it pretty easily.
Yeah, the last guy I went out with pretty much figured it out and I only went out with him for two weeks.
How did he react when he found out?
I didn't know girls had it as bad as guys. Once you reach a certain age and you haven't done it people look at you as a complete and utter failure as a man. At 15 I remember being considered a freak. You can very quickly become the joke of the town if words gets around. If you're a shy male then it's even worse. I'll admit I'm just going to get it over with as soon as possible so that I can fit in with society and be normal. I know I'll feel worse after though because I had to pay for it. But it just has to be done.
Some people are very private about their sex lives and don't give any details to other people. I know I don't talk about my sex life IRL with other people
That's true. I thought that was a weaker one because sex is generally a private topic in polite conversations, but it is valid for some. Those factors also overlap with assault victims or embarrassing moments, though, so who knows.

Same here before. Mine figured it out on the first date. He was scratching his head saying, "Uh, you don't have to answer. I already know because you couldn't stand close enough to me. You keep backing away, you've never had sex before or else you wouldn't be like this. Plus, I can definitely tell by your attitude. You seem like a virgin." What else is there to say?

So once you get it over with, how do you plan to go about informing society that you are no longer a "complete and utter failure?"

Nothing wrong with paying for sex. It's only taboo in America (due to our puritan roots). It is widely accepted everywhere else in the world and even encouraged in some places.
Fear of becoming close physically or emotionally? Some people do not feel comfortable talking about their private sex lives to strangers or even close friends. Not everyone is liberal.
Both, but that's a common symptom. Just because someone doesn't become close to you could have deeper meanings (and worse) than not being a virgin. I knew neighbors like this and it turned out they sure as Hell weren't virgins. But the poor neighbors suffered child abuse and spouse abuse.

I always will still be a failure... just no longer a virgin failure. Eventually I'll be glad to get the virgin label off my back and no longer feel like such a freak. At my age I'm just too old to be a virgin, and I know if I don't do something about it very soon, I'll be 40 years old before I know it.
