i'm wondering - how do you tell if someone is getting out of the car to open the door for you?

or if they're getting out simply because they want to say/hug goodbye?

Sit there and wait, I guess?

This is a weird question.

If they make a point to hop outta the vehicle before the car is in park and have a look on their face that aligns with a Mission Impossible face as they sprint around the car to your door, it's usually a good indicator.

LOL...old fashioned, but sweet. Unless you are walking to the car and the person opens the door for you to get in, just open your own door when getting out of the car.

I liked it when I'd first date a guy and he'd open the car door for me. My SO kept doing it for more than a year after we'd become serious, though. Finally I told him that I appreciated it, but he didn't need to do it anymore!

Well, if you don't want to look overly expectant, you can fiddle with your bag for a short minute and then look up all surprised and smiley when you hear the door open.

I used to open my ex-wifes car door. She enjoyed it. I was old fashioned. Still am, a bit. I open doors, let the ladies on/off the elevator first, etc. I ALWAYS get my Mom's car door when she visits. No matter how modern you are, treat your Mom like she's the Queen of Earth!
