The reason I don't see the whole thing as stupid is that it worked once before years ago. Maybe it should not have but, it did. Although back then I had much less to offer and thus, lose.
Sheeze, meet her for a few simple dates before you commit to several days together. Gather information and google her as well. Heck, I wouldn't go out of town with someone I didn't know well without running a background check as well.
It's really pretty simple to figure out and implement.
I think your intuition is telling you that you don't want to really do this and there is nothing wrong with not doing it. I think you should listen to your intuition.
Your first date with her is a weekend trip? Don't do that, really. You should at least have a few regular dates with her before you plan any trip. You don't even know if you really like her or am attracted to her.
