Plotting rarely, if ever, occurs there. It's not "secrecy", it's privacy, so people won't get laughed at doing their hijinks, and tabloids can't photograph community leaders or bigwigs stumbling around drunk, and then use the photos against them. Look at what happened to Kate Middleton, when she and William thought they were having a private vacation. Jeez, use your head.
I think its naive to suggest the sole purpose of the gathering is to be able to cut loose out of the public eye. JMO . If you're a billionaire, you can buy privacy whenever you'd like it.
They do do some dirty dealings, I remember a reddit thread where people posted their craziest hotel stories, that is, people who worked at hotels. One guy said his friend said that ever once in a while, there was a group of the shriners (a kind of freemason) who would hire a bunch of prostitutes and have an orgy up in the penthouse.
Of course, that's not anything that most people can't get away with easily, hell, that's half the point of penthouses. I guess part of the attraction is just the guys want to FEEL like they're connected and getting away with somehting.
