I hunted with my uncle once. He loves hunting during deer season, and I did shoot and kill a deer with his shotgun, and I helped gut it and clean it.
And I'll never do it again. The smell is horrifying, and all the nasty stuff you see when gutting the animal made me puke a few times. Nope, not going to do that again.
I had a co-worker in ATL who hunted and a friend out West with ND roots, and he would go back there with relatives to go hunting. I stayed friends with them, but kept my mouth shut as to what I really thought about it.
Not something I would do. City person, through and through. The only animal I would shoot is one coming toward me, threatening my life.
My sister hunts. She's gotten a few deer over the years, turkeys and pheasant, too.
It's not for me. I couldn't shoot a sweet little deer--but I've eaten them after someone else did and liked it.
My grandfather and uncles hunted also. And I appreciate that hunters are often kinder to nature than those who don't respect the woods.
You have to watch out for those deer man. They've got a whole arsenal now, RPGS, claymore mines, machine guns.
That reminds me, I remember telling one soldier newly arrived in Afgh' to always shout out if he saw a goat in the distance and him asking why, "Over here son, the goats carry guns!" In reference to the goat skinned 'jackets' the locals wore in the Highlands and in winter.
What's the difference between hunting and fishing?
Fish are cute and furry. I have known many people whose compassion for animals is dependant on the rank they give them. Fish are low on the scale.
