I thought the motor-mouth monologue was pretty much a guy thing. I guess not. But I've read that in some cases it's due to a belief some men have that women don't have anything of value to contribute to a conversation. With some people, it's just a neurotic habit. I've tentatively decided that the next time I experience that, I'm going to ask the person if they're aware they're monopolizing the entire conversation, and if they're under the mistaken impression that this is the way to impress women.
It makes no sense. I wonder if these people have any idea how they're coming across to others, or if they care.

This assumes he would stop talking when someone's "ready to open up". How can anyone open up, if no space is provided in the monologue to get a word in edgewise, anyway?
