I occasionally use a dating site here in Switzerland, and recently I have had some very suspicious chat and email interactions with men who do not seem to be who they say they are. It wastes my time and pisses me off.
Now, in this country, poor command of English isn't always an indicator of a Nigerian scammer, but here are some things that raise red flags for me:
Only 1 profile picture
Claiming to be American or English but making odd language errors
Being self-employed (usually in petrochemical industry)
Using affectionate language right away ("babe," "sweetie")
No facebook page
But I wish I had a foolproof way of weeding out the love scammers right away because now I come across as being really suspicious to even legitimate contacts--demanding pictures, asking for fb info, etc.
I would love to be able to ask one or two innocent-sounding questions that would reveal whether someone is for real or not without putting a potential date off.
