Early in life (ages 15-25) couples are paired on looks and popularity. After that they start to pair on the woman's looks and the guy's income.
Very true! Here's what I've observed (I posted this on another thread, but it's even more relevant here).
-If a woman is reasonably attractive but is unemployed/underemployed and broke (or at least without much $), she can & will typically marry/date a guy who's financially successful. Note if the guy is financially successful, his looks really don't matter. I see gorgeous women with slobs all the time.
Conversely,
If a guy is reasonably attractive (to women), but is unemployed/underemployed and broke, he will probably have a difficult time finding an attractive woman to date him long term, let alone get married to.
That being said:
-Obviously there are exceptions to the above.
-These observations are specifically related to marriage/LTR's. I know that women will "hook up" with guys regardless of the guy's finances, but those aren't LTR's.

Water seeks its own level. Most people date within a level or two of themselves in looks. Movie stars and 50-year-old moguls who buy 19-year-old Playmates don't count.
I remember hearing of some study years ago that said people end up with someone who is roughly the same in looks. Not looks LIKE them, but same level of attractiveness. Roughly. Not that they intentionally do it, it just works out like that. The only things that tip the scales are money or power.
