I'm not. I was only replying to a statement made by another poster that the number of woman's sexual partners is meaningless. I agree that the factors you mention could matter.

Yes, the Teachman study only uses that distinction. But there are more data files available from the government surveys. This analysis shows that the divorce rate increases for women with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6-9, 10-19, 20+ sex partners (for men also but not as much). I haven't tried to validate it.
The researcher speculates: "However, an intimate premarital relationship with someone other than one’s marital partner may indicate increased risk to subsequent marital disruption. Multiple premarital sexual partners may indicate less commitment to the idea of a permanent relationship with one individual. Multiple sexual partners may also weaken the marital bond by heightening awareness of alternatives to one’s marital partner as sources of sexual intimacy and fulfillment. "

OP, if you think the study is important, do you think either gender is up front with this information in the dating process...I'd say no. Do you ask women this early in the dating process?
|
Absolutely, valid questions. But the poll was just a hypothetical. I'm not saying that you should go around asking or anything like that.

Of course. But if only each person's individual experiences counted, we wouldn't be able to talk about general trends and they apparently exist. There are exceptions to every rule but talking about averages is not meaningless.

Yes, but using newer data, from 2002 and 2006-2008 does not change the pattern.

I think it's likely that the woman with 15 partners is being honest about her past, while the ex-stripper is not.

As I've said time and time again, if it "didnt matter" people wouldn't feel the need to lie about the number

The minute guys say " I'm young, I don't want to settle down, I want to sleep around" then girls have no choice but to copy them. Then guys are shocked when girls do it way better than them.

Maybe you should ask her to explain each of them in sordid detail, and then come back and tell us all how much you don't care.

I'm asking how you figure they have no choice .
You could just as easily reverse it, and say that if all women required marriage before sex, or something like that, that all men would have no choice but to comply.
It's just as true, and just as academic of a point, since not all people will have the same views.

That would be true. I don't know how else to explain it to you.

I'm talking about when a girl is surrounded by guys who say they want to sleep around or who think you have to be at a certain place or a certain older age before you marry. This is quite common among young people.
