Personally I think it can be a great first date if done right. A lot of times, shopping is seen as something a guy is dragged into, where a guy is holding a womans purse, whether they're in a relationship, or if supposedly he doesn't have the cajones to ask her on a real date, and get friendzoned.

But for me personally although I've never done it as a first date, but why not? Most if not all women like going shopping for clothes, and as a guy I love seeing an attractive woman in a flattering outfit, so I would get a very own fashion show with a girl I'm interested in trying something on, and comin out of the fitting room showing something off.

I think it can be very flirty, communicating in a fun that you're interested in more than just companionship while still being appropriate. I think its up there with great first dates that include taking a dance lesson.

I figure start with coffee or whatever nearby especially in a pedestrian mall type of place, and then suggest she check out the stores.
What if you discover you hate her taste in clothes, so you end up clashing over her choices? Could be a train wreck. And unless she's already mentioned she needs to go shopping, I don't know how you'd bring it up without her thinking you're offering to pay. It might work better as a 2nd date.

The idea of putting on a fashion show for a guy I just met gives me the creeps!
WQhy not do to a flea market instead of the mall-way more fun and interesting.

This sounds like torture. I like shopping. I also like to go in, get my items and leave. I rarely buy anything when shopping with other people. I like to go on my own and get it over with. But on the flip side, I absolutely love helping people shop and acting like a personal shopper. At the end of the day, I know what I like and don't really care about the input.

Yes. Start with coffee, BUT do it where there is shopping, and propose walking around checking stores out. As that can be fun. I was thinking of the "modeling" as a possibility of things that can happen that can be kind of fun.

It might be better than just sitting and having coffee.
There are only 2 kinds of shopping I'd want on a first date:
1. books
2. music

So you want a girl to model outfits for you on a first date? That's funny

I'm with chow, I hate shopping. On the other hand I took a girl to an arts and crafts festival last spring and that was fun. A flea market would be interesting with the right girl too but either way its a different thing than shopping in general.

First date of shopping would come off as the guy wanting to be an SG in my opinion. Or he is trying to buy me to cover up one of his flaws.
