Same people. I've told this story before, but got NO answers. So NOW, I am soliciting answers.

I went on a date with a woman I grew up with who was widowed at 33. She never had kids when married and I don't believe she could have them due to some health issues.

She asked about dating and this and that, and I said "I haven't dated single moms. Eh, I don't think I'd have that much in common with them." She retorts "Oh, REAALLLY." Her sister, a veritable Suzie Sorority (in fact, her sister's name WAS Suzie) had married a guy from college, and they set up a household in a nice part of Orange County where he worked, had two kids, and then divorced - then on to living with her two kids.

The date went downhill. When we got to the restaurant, she said "I'll pay. You paid last time." I said "Sure." I knew it was the end of the line. (I would have had a great last laugh if I left her at the restaurant, having her Daddy come fetch her).

At any rate, why would this anger a childless woman (who to date has never had a child) in this manner? I'd like to hear from both women and men.

Probably because her sister is a single mom. It wouldn't bother me at all.

Seems a bit irrational to me. IDK.

Maybe someone in her family is a single mom.... she took it personally...... the only thing I could think of.

Yes, like I said, her younger sister was now a single mom. What a stupid reason to have a quick change in behavior over this.

Maybe she was considering you as a sperm donor or going to a clinic for same
or
Maybe she was considering adoption as a single parent
or
Maybe she was pregnant

(BTW the term "childfree" is less pejorative, IMO.)

Very devout and traditional Catholic girl. None of these apply. That I can guarantee you.

When I was thin, I used to get really mad at men who made fun of 'fat chicks', even though I wasn't one.

I feel it's very similar... some people may be bothered by a situation that they may not be in themselves, but are familiar with.

I don't want children and don't know many single Moms, but I don't like judgey people either.

Had she not had health problems, maybe she would have had children by her widowed husband and would therefore be a single mom?

Maybe that combined with the fact that her sister is a single mom?

Ehhh IDK, seems really irrational to flip like that on you.

Maybe she interpreted your comment as being anti-kid.
