Do you want the cliff notes version or the extended edition?
Short answer, dating. Back in the day, courting was a process men went through to date/marry women. He would get dressed up and go and meet the girls parents. He would bring her a gift and ask the parents for permission to date their daughter.
Did you even read the article? It refers to courting as men picking up the phone to ask a woman for a date, and then actually taking her on a real date.
It's pretty on point. The younger people have no idea how to date, only hookup. And some older guys are taking advantage of that ignorance by going for the hookup with younger women who don't expect anything else.
It doesn't make any practical sense. You try to be decent, all that wining, dating and dining stuff (just because you want to do something pleasant to another human being, to get to know her little bit, nothing more) and then you find out that other guys were banging her without spending a single cent on a happy meal, and she has their phone numbers on speed dial. Not only that, she has some their clothes left to be mended in her house. All of that cost those guys $0 + gas, good banging means so much more to a modern woman than spending $ and time on that old fashioned stuff. Have you ever heard of an American woman mending her husbands pants? I have not heard of that before or since. Romancing and "courtship" stops right there.
So sad. I liked the old way of dating and getting to know people. Not this confusing new school "hanging out" stuff.
It's still out there, you just have to hold out for it. I had right in my profile I wanted to date properly, and while it thinned the numbers, I found there are still men who want to be men. My bf courted me right, right from the start.

Yes, I read the article. Somebody asked what courting was, and I told what it ment. Courting back in the day was more than just picking up a phone. Please educate yourself. And for the record I'm glad that courting/dating in the traditional sense is dying.
