I think it's actually less pressure. I see people dating who both wait for the other to call because they're not even sure anymore who should call who, and people who "hang out" hoping it means romantic interest on the others' part but never being sure - in the old days it was much more clear cut and easier to know what the rules are, who was really interested, etc.

Whoa, whoa! "Dating" doesn't have to be about money, as the article mentioned. That has nothing to do with the "pressure" of asking someone on a date. Why would you feel like a fool, just asking her to coffee, or to study together?
Did you even read the article? It refers to courting as men picking up the phone to ask a woman for a date, and then actually taking her on a real date.
It's pretty on point. The younger people have no idea how to date, only hookup. And some older guys are taking advantage of that ignorance by going for the hookup with younger women who don't expect anything else.
This is why you'll see a growing number of guys not committing. Why commit to just one girl when I could go out and get a new one any day of the week?

Why I would feel like a fool? Because other guys were banging her without "getting to know her", asking for a date or paying 1 cent for coffee etc.. The ways of the liberated women make old fashioned butt sniffing quite foolish if not ridiculous.

Fair enough. Go for the women who don't have other guys banging them. They're around. It's not like you don't have a choice.
