Just don't go out for a "nice" dinner. Terrible night of the year for that. If there's a prix fixe, I assure you, it's not to make it cheaper or higher-quality for you. I've worked in places that cram in extra two-tops, meaning your server will be extra-harried. Places are jammed with reservations, so forget any sort of leisurely meal--you will be on the restaurant's pace, nor you own. It's basically like Restaurant Week but with red roses for sale. Go out the 13th or the 15, but avoid Feb 14. Trust me!
I don't hate it. I will give little cards to some friends and have a bit of fun with it. One year it was "Happy Bunny" Cards and one year "I Love Lucy".
And I so agree with all of you who mentioned discounted chocolate the next day!
That does it, I'm doing a chocolate fast/diet that weekend. I'm sure I'll still be able to reach my goal, with a little side break. I might wake to a choco comma Monday, but what bliss the previous few nights.
I vote, it's an invaluable holiday.
I find that my wife finds the little things more Romantic for valentines day. Not the big expensive dinner, or tons of flowers, or that stuff (not that she dislikes receiving flowers or eating out). However, if I pay attention to her and get her something she has been realling wanting (CD, or whatever it might be) that it is a lot more romantic and satisfying for her than the stereotypical V-day gifts.
All chocolate is good, especially dark chocolate. They also say dark chocolate is good for you, in limited doses, and has anti-depressant like qualities.
This is true...the darker the chocolate that is unprocessed (in its more raw form) the better it is for you. Cacao basically has the highest amount of antioxidants over anything else.

Yeah, whenever I get flowers I can't help but think he blew 60 bucks or whatever on something that's going to die in a couple of days. I'm not a fan of flowers. I like the CD idea better if he feels he absolutely has to do something.
I usually get flowers on my birthday from my brother. Yeah, they die but I do think it's sweet he puts forth the effort. And when I hosted my Christmas party, a friend who had not yet been to one of my parties brought me a poinsettia, which I thought was really sweet. However, it also made me hesitant to invite him to my b-day party a couple of weeks ago as I'd already killed it.
I think I will ask a girl to come over and walk on me wearing a pair of "red socks with hearts on them"
