sometimes i catch some flack at work because i dont have a girlfriend. does anyone else single, male or female experience these judgments/comments? i am 23 years old. i am not the type of guy to approach anyone of the opposite sex and strike up conversation. it feels uncomfortable, and i think people who do that are complete tools. most of the time, i ignore what these people say. but then, i get to thinking about it some more.

i am not sure if there is anything fundamentally wrong with me. i might have a bit of a self-esteem or confidence issue. i am not overweight(not anymore). and i've been told that i am decent looking(by the opposite sex). i tend to not be social. i really only have one friend. most of the time, i am comfortable just surfing the web, watching tv, or reading. yes, i am introverted, but not as shy as i used to be. sometimes i get lonely and think about signing up for an online dating site. i've been single since 2008 and i'm beginning to think it might become a problem. i'm beginning to think that i should go out of my comfort zone and try dating this year. at this point, i don't care much about having a relationship. it might just be a welcoming change to actually have someone to talk to, regardless of where it goes.

People will judge you no matter what your situation is. If you can accept this, you will be more at peace. On the flip side, there are always people who accept you and won't be harsh with you, so take the risk and step out into the brave new world.

Yes, and I tell them to **** off, in some cases. And, if they write "certain" monthly checks, I tell them I wouldn't trade places with them.

No, they judge you for being insecure about being single.

i pretend not to be insecure about it. most times, i'm not....maybe about 25% of the time when im alone and thinking about things

i am not asking for anyone's philosophy/rhetoric....i am just asking about other single people's experiences.

What about someone who just plain doesn't care about it and is not looking, and they still make a comment about it?

I don't agree with this at all. The judging started once they know you are single.

Who goes around saying, "I am uncomfortable being single, and I want you (co-worker, etc) to know."

No longer single but when I was single I was judged. I am also now judged for being in a relationship.
My judgement goes as follows:
When I was single... she must be crazy or have lots of baggage because she is too attractive to be single.

Now that I am no longer single... she has never spent longer than a year as a single woman. She is one of those women who "needs" a man.

Because I weight 120lbs and am a picky eater...she cares too much about her looks. She should just eat.

Because my boyfriend does not look like the typical guy I would date according to the world....he must have money and she must be a gold digger.

Basically until you get to know me, I may as well walk around with a sign saying I am superficial. Couldn't be further from the truth. It only entertains me now, but I used to try so hard to prove to others that I wasn't who they labeled me to be. How ridiculous is that. Lol.

My point is people are always going to judge you no matter what. Unless these people pay you, have a say in whether or not you keep your job, or are someone you plan to build a happy home with...I say F em...

But that's just me
