Dating in small cities sucks for dating. (women, lover, social)

Living in Gary Indiana really suck sometimes. I find it incredibly hard to meet people (women) on a regular basis in my very small city. I tried going out to Chicago to meet women but every time they find out I live a few cities over they have a problem with it. It seems like if I don't get a big social circle going, I'm screwed. I have the same problem with online dating with my city. I'm really considering moving to a bigger city to fix this problem.
Hold off before you jump the gun and move. Coming from a humongous city, I can tell you that such a large portion of the people here (and I have talked to/research a LOT) have LOADS of problems with dating as well. Millions of people to theoretically choose from, yes, and yet, isolation galore. But, the grass in always greener, they say. Expanding the search radius is a good step, but you need to explore other ways as well to market yourself. There are countless sites with tips on taking better pictures, writing better profiles, etc. Okcupid has some good tips on their blogs /oktrends section that they no longer update. Good luck!

Any tips guys?
And Gary has no hotspots!
Maybe they are more concerned with dodging bullets if they come over to your place. I'm mostly kidding, but Gary is brought up as high crime in a lot of national reports. I wouldn't ever move just to find women, but I've never lived in a place that they are in limited supply. If you are miserable then I would suggest moving. Maybe your overall demeanor will attract more women if you are more confident about where you live.
The problem, in my view, isn't a city's small size, but its lack of economic vibrancy. Dating is easier in prosperous places, where people have good jobs with lots of disposable income; where people are well-educated and have subjects about which to engage in conversation. In a declining working-class town, with dearth of middle-class jobs and ever worsening prospects, finding and attracting a suitable mate becomes quite frustrating.
