Really. It's beyond me why it's so hard for people to understand that when something--anything--becomes so consuming that it interferes with or alters their relationships to others and the world around them for the worse, that it's not going to appeal to prospective partners? I could not care less if my SO plays Battlefield or whatever for a couple of hours a day. But if he were to lash out and throw a tantrum over it, I would have a huge problem with that.
I'll go back to my basic premise that the guys this article talks about are self-selecting themselves out of the gene pool. That's fine with me. I can't imagine what kind of fathers they would make, being so disengaged as it is. But then don't come complaining that you can't get dates and are still a virgin at 25, 30, 35, 40...

You are telling me you have NEVER had one heated tantrum in your adult life over something you were passionate about?

Well, having a heated argument about the superbowl results would be perfectly understandable of course. Having one about the Dota 2 international finals is a clear signal of an unhealthy obsession.

I've let out a couple of dammits after getting beat in the final seconds of Madden on a couple of occasion with my friends. I think it is nothing more than a heat of the moment thing. If someone is going to judge me for 30 seconds of anger over a game I put a lot into that didn't turn out well, they have no business being my SO.

I can honestly say that I have never yelled at strangers because I am angry about something they have absolutely nothing to do with.
Do I get irritated with things? Of course. Everyone does. There's not a person alive who doesn't get angry. I have a few choice words for the Blue Screen of Death, appliances that break in the middle of use (always fun when it's a washing machine), and the Philadelphia Flyers.
But in public? No. In public involving other people I don't even know? Hell no.
I don't see what the big deal is. If some one wants to play a bunch of video games and watch porn all day they aren't hurting anyone. It beats the other popular hobby of many people: Going to a bar and getting hammered drunk. Those people drive around and kill people all the time so you actually could make an argument for banning that, or at least to close all bars.
Anyway, the article is on CNN. TV News is really only consumed by old people at this point and the website is just an offshoot of their brand. (I'm not insulting anyone, look up the average age of the viewership of these channels). Old people didn't grow up with video games so they never took a liking to them. They also didn't grow up with easy access to pornography. This means these are both safe targets for them to attack to stir up their core demographic. Before this they blamed comic books for all of societies ills but those aren't very popular anymore and a lot of old people may have collected them back when they were at this point. Before comic books they probably blamed everything on rock and roll and jazz.

Yeah, CNN is lame now. From what I can tell, its mostly a bunch of pissy geriatrics who feel the need to invent a new crisis each week, or spouses who have such vocal opposition to porn or videogames. I think with the more modern generation, both are just an everyday part of life. Plus, I mean, the same thing could EASILY be said about some members of City-Data. A lot of these people have a million posts and spend 3/4's of their day on here staring at posts and bickering with whoever disagrees with them....lol, and then those same people have the nerve to turn around bemoan others who spend their time the exact same way, (except that they may be staring at a screen with a different kind of media while wacking it or playing games...) smh..the hypocrisy is laughable in my opinion.

You know, back in the stone age, I bet it was probably the same.
