1. "Your lips are so soft and kissable, do you use something?" lmao
2. "No one has made love to me like you"
3. "You're the best guy i've met"

Hm.
It wasn't meant to be a compliment, I think.

It happened a few weeks ago. I was kind of being dark and feeling...I dunno...small and a little irrelevant. I was lamenting the aging process and how we become sexually irrelevant, etc...after being sought after quite a bit in our 20s...how that dwindles in our late 30s...how people younger than we are kind of don't think we exist, etc.

Anyway, my wife kind of got angry and was yelling at me a little bit about how she thought it was totally insane that someone like me would sound so not confident...like if someone like me could express an insecurity, there was something screwed up about the whole world...implying I was the last person on the planet who should ever feel insecure about anything.

She seemed so outraged and indignant, I knew these were sincere feelings. Like I was turning her world upside down.

I had heard this before (from friends and other people close to me), but I didn't realize how the people around me really thought I had everything together and just walked around owning the world. A giant ball of competence and confidence and snap, snap, it's all so easy and of course I did it all right and got all the answers correct and scored the hot chick and aced the test and saved the life and blah blah blah.

The compliment wasn't so much that their perception of me was that way. It was that they had that much faith in me.

Okay, it's probably not my "favorite", as that one is too private to print , but one of the sweetest compliments was once when I was bemoaning a very bad haircut.

He said, just go ahead and shave your head!

I said, are you freakin' crazy??

He said, Actually, I'm just so crazy about you that no matter what you look like, I'm always attracted to you!

Moonwatcher's reminded me of one.

He said my cooking was like art work.

Of course he's been trained to eat grubs, squirrels and such.

My first husband said a couple of similar things about me that I still draw from every so often. He said,"I can take you anywhere and I know I will be proud of you." And he once said he could seat me next to Queen Elizabeth at dinner, or on a street corner with some hookers, and by the end of the night I'd be friends with all of them.
He was right about that, but unfortunately he didn't work out.
