Actually, the U.S. is probably the most conservative first-world nation as far as sexual attitudes go.

Anyway, it seems despite the fact that we're supposedly so liberal, open and positive about sex, there seems a definite prudishness about how many people view sex. Whether it be women or men who like to have a lot of sex or sex partners, 'players, studs' or 'sluts, whores' or else women who are prostitutes or men who visit them. As long as they're both consenting adults who are forced into it, why is there such a aversion to this? Is it a built in moral code, or just snobbishness? Maybe the risk of STD's?

Don't bring in things like child/forced prostitution into it. If it's consensual, I don't really see the idea of prostitution as all that bad, unless you have a religious/moral objection over promiscuity. Because many people today basically do sell sex. (I also started a thread asking if a lot of dating was just prostitution by a different name).
Maybe I am just being nieve, but isn't part of the stigma based on the fact that you cannot just easily seperate and dismiss the forced/coerced prostitution, and the way it takes advantage of people's bodies?

I suppose there could be prostitutes who willingly, and joyfully work as "escorts" because they enjoy taking men's money. However, from all the women I know, I just find it highly unlikely that prostitution in the majority fits in a neat, clean, immoral free box.

That doesn't mean those women are not out there, but we know that prostitution is often corrupt and full of all kinds of shameful and illegal practices of human trafficking too.

one thing, is illegal

second thing, and I can only talk from a female point of view, IMO (and I do not expect everyone to agree with me) there must be some disconnect on a female head to be able to do that with just anyone and function. IMO is not normal for a woman to have sex with any man, collect and go home. There has to be some type of damage for a woman to be able to do that (most sex workers have been sexually abused in the past, or in childhood).

But I do believe prostitution should be legal, just to protect these women. In a way, they have to be mentally ill or addicts or extremely desperate to be in that profession and they do expose themselves to a lot of risks.

On the male side outside of the internet and Older Fathers, in 2013 I rarely if EVER see men shaming women not to be promiscuous. Actually they encourage it, for obvious reasons. The only ones I really see shame sluts are the guys who are angry they're not getting laid as much if at all compared to their male peers.

I'm so glad a guy said that. It's usually the first thing that goes through my head when someone gets on here talking about it: "Must not be getting any, himself."

But, you know, if a woman says that, she's being "defensive" or must be sleeping with half the county, herself.

All you have to do is look at the threads started regarding friendship between opposite sexes. So many men can't fathom even being friends with a woman if she isn't putting out. It's really sad.
Well, I've always maintained that opposite sex friendships don't work out if either party is romantically interested and the feeling isn't mutual. Girls make great friends though. There are just some things you don't share with other guys besides possibly your dad or brother. That, and it's nice to take some of the testosterone/pride out of the equation and just be able to lay out how you really feel with someone.

Yup..I would say the Wester/Northern European countries have the most liberal attitude to sex. In the US it depends on where you are, the urban areas and the coasts will naturally be less traditional than the interior.

I think the Czech Republic is pretty liberal too. And also Russia, with one major exception--Russia is very homophobic, definitely more so than the U.S.

It got closed because it ran its course. You kept repeating the same point over and over.
