We split 7 years ago. I was very surprised to see the request this morning, and wondered why he extended it, but I accepted it. I barely looked at his profile, saw that his best friend moved to Brooklyn recently.

I thought about him during my hour long bike ride to work today. Maybe we can be friends again. Maybe something more. Maybe he is coming for a visit. We met in 1999, and I have never had a relationship last for more than 4 months ever since him. Maybe we will talk, have a personal discussion and catch up.

At work I logged onto Facebook and decided to write him a message. After all, he took the first step by adding me. He reached out to me! "Hey there, I was very surprised to see your friend request this morning. I am glad you got in touch. How are you, what's going on?" I wrote. I hit send.

After I hit send, the alert showing that I had a message appeared. It was from him, sent last night right after he added me. I guess I couldn't see it before. The message said:

"Blew your chance. Should of cut my brakes. Turns out you were still next in the inheritance list."

I feel like a chump. He just wrote to stick it to me.

I don't know your ex, but was he trying to be funny with his message? Make you laugh maybe?

And I wouldn't feel like a chump. If he was trying to stick it to ya, you either confused the crap out of him or you look like the mature, rational one. Clearly you're still on his mind (regardless of why) if he took the effort to find, add and write you on FB.

Hmmm, I didn't take it as a joke at all. I hadn't even considered that.

Anyone else read that as a joke?

That depends.

Did he make lame and unfunny jokes?

If so - it could be a joke.

I really can't recall him ever making a joke like that. Not even close.

How can that be read as a joke?

What kind of humor is that?

Maybe he had to transfer or update his 401K or something and you will still on the document as recipient?
If you didnt take it as a joke, then it most likely wasnt. you should know his sense of humor considering you married him.

But, maybe it WAS a joke? really hard call. considering you messaged him, you will likely find out soon. I believe you can message someone on FB without being friends, so I would think it being your birthday and the actual friend request is a good thing?

Really weird. Did it end ok? Or did the marriage end really had? If the longest relationship you had since is 4 months, I can only assume you still have some pain from the divorce.

smart ass humor.

if they were having a rocky relationship, he's saying she should have at least knocked him off for the money (more money) as opposed to divorce.

Your idea of smart ass humor was waaay different than my smartass humor, and I'm called a smartass all the time.
