Funny I just heard this mentioned on a radio talk show. They basically said to sit next to your partner/date if you are in a serious relationship but across from each other on a first date.
Depends is the seat across another booth or a hard chair?
If I’m going for a nice dinner and the choice is a hard bottom chair or nice soft booth on my tush for 60+ min I’m choosing the booth. If there is a tv with a sporting event on I’m angling for that as well.
Not me. A friend stated she went on a first date and the guy did this, and she thought it was sweet. She is mad because I said it is not sweet. It should be a huge red flag to her because it is not normal behavior on a first date. It screams of neediness, clingy and invasion of personal space to me. I would have asked him to move to his side.

If I chose one side, and you tried to sit next to me on a first date, I would have told you move, or I was leaving. You can have the whole booth. I can't candle creepy men.
