From a casual standpoint, yes you're probably right. While reading that article list I was reminded of someone I know who told me she was introduced to pain as pleasure while dating someone long term. I can't get her to talk about it too much since she's shy about the whole thing, but I think it's very interesting she went from being appalled at the idea of inflicted pain by a significant other, to actually enjoying it. Won't go into details!!
Do you think someone has to mentally allow that transition to happen, or is it more like a rude awakening when you find out it's exciting?
I think that if a transition like that happens the preference for that sexual experience was always there but was unawakened or repressed even if they came from a conservative background. For example if you asked me now whether I was into that kind of thing I would say no, for certain, but that may change in the future as I have more experience ( I haven't had very many at all.)

I've always found it hot when a woman shaved me (mostly referring to my face).
Yeah but did you ever let a woman trim the shrubs? That takes some real trust there! One wrong move and you have a very embarrassing emergency room visit!
