When you invite someone on a hiking date, they know it'll involve, well, hiking. Hours of walking. When you invite a woman for a long, ostensibly romantic, walk on the beach, she doesn't have in mind 4 hours of walking. You need to spell it out.
"Enjoys long, physically strenuous walks along the coastline (MILES of it). Bring extremely comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk at least 4.5 miles per hour."

Eh, that's my preferred walking speed (A brisk walk). And it's not that strenuous. However I will tolerate a leisurely trot at a relaxing pace, as long as we keep movin.

Is there a boardwalk? If so, you can specify that they may want to inline skate to keep up with you.

There ya go! Now, personally, when I'm on firm ground, I can do 4.5 mph easily, and for hours, nonstop. But I'm not most women. On sand, though, 4.5 mph is more of a workout for the feet and leg muscles. Unless you're wearing shoes or waterproof sandals, or something. And what's at the end of the 2-hr. walk? Lunch or dinner at a cafe? That would be cool.

Yeah, I can walk about 4.5mph on pavement or packed dirt without too much trouble, but in sand or loose gravel it would take me ages to get anywhere. But mostly, in my mind a walking date should be really leisurely, just slowly strolling along enjoying each other's company. What's the hurry?

Right. Unless it's a hiking date, it would be assumed by the lady to be more about enjoying each other's company, talking, getting to know each other, while also enjoying the beach, or the local architecture, or whatever the scenic component was. It would be about the journey itself, not the destination or the cruising speed.
Oh, please! You'd be bored by your date's company? Why would you be dating her, then?
It was a joke that ladies seem to not like long, strenuous, fast paced walks while on a date.
