We don't know enough of the facts about your marriage and divorce to give a solid opinion.

Alimony is moral and ethical in some cases, but not in all. Much depends on the circumstances.

When is it moral and ethical?

Why should she get a free ride here - how about she just gets a job like everyone else?

forget about sides.

I just can't see why I should have to pay a penny regardless of the situation.

We are now separated, over, finished - and she has a new man.

So she should just move on.

Is that right? (ethically, not legally)

Should the alimony procedure be abolished?

I think it should because

IMO, it is all one big scam.

So how about it?

Directed towards the OP…
This issue is usually dependant on which state you reside in…

I know for California law?
Alimony is due when the couple has been married for more than 3 years and it is paid for the duration of half their marriage…

So I.E. if you were married for 14 years? You would be due to pay the stated amount of alimony for 7 years regardless of her status unless she was legally married in which this would be null and void…

why should I have to pay anything once we have separated?

IOW: why does the law state this?

You're coming into a relationship forum to ask a legal question about alimony? You need to ask an attorney that question "by does the law state this?"

I"m not asking a legal question.

In the OP I said, morally or ethically.

So I want to gain posters' views on this side of the issue, so let's forget about lawyers for the time being.

So, in your opinion, why do you think I should give money to my ex if she now has another man?
