You can do a quick check-in. I personally would not think that was weird, especially with the very broadened "friends" (or at least acquaintances) base people have today due to social media.

If he even remembers you. Your first tweet about him will leave the guy scratching his head faking "wtf, over?" His girlfriend or S/O. Asking the same "wtf, over?" As much as I am sentimental hopeless romantic, I am still cautious of that attempt. Hell, I reject Facebook friends requests from people who previously "defriend"me. I don't accept friends request from those I don't know. As far as twitter, meh. Someone starts contacting me out at seemingly random I tend to block or remove from my list of followers.
