People should be able to have as many cats as they want. However, the cats should receive appropriate veterinary care. They should be kept inside and the house should be clean.
It's not the number of cats that would turn me off, it's the level of craziness. I have met people with pristine homes and multiple healthy cats. I have also met people with just one cat - who would make me run the other direction . . . fast.
I'm a woman and I freaking HATE cats. I can handle dogs. One or two dogs in the house fine, but I'm not picking up their poop. But cats are evil. I hate them. They hate me.
Why do you hate them? What's evil about them? What do they do that's evil? Were you scratched or bitten as a child and can't get past it?
As soon as I found out a guy had a cat when I was dating, it was over. Cats stink.
Only if the owner is too stupid or too cheap to have them neutered. And there are such people.

Cat's litter boxes stink.
Only if the owner is too lazy to scoop it twice a day. Some people too lazy to scoop once a week. Blame the owner, not the cat. They can't scoop their own litterbox.

Cats vomit and then I vomit. Cats shed. Cats don't give a crap about you. Cats just have this nasty attitude that rubs me the wrong way.
Cats do little vomiting when brushed. You seem totally ignorant of the proper care of cats and cat BEHAVIOR. Anyone who has a cat that stinks and refuses to scoop their box twice a day should be avoided. They're poor cat owners and will probably make poor mates and parents to any children you may have in the future. Cats don't have a nasty attitude, you're reflecting your own attitude on them. Is they were as bad as you claim, no one would own a cat no less more than one.

Cats are very friendly and affectionate, but they tend to see themselves as equals of humans. That can be scary, I guess. I grew up around them, and other animals, so it just seems normal to me. Livestock, for example, are mostly the same way. They can be cuddly, but they don't grovel.
And this is the whole problem with cat haters. They want pets to GROVEL and obey. Can we say they're a bit of a control-freak? Cats refuse to bow down to them, to be controlled and try to please them so they "hate" cats. Cats don't give them the "satisfaction" they so crave.
