8 years isn't a big difference but we are talking really of guys who approach women because they are considerably younger.

The OP actually does reference people old enough to be your dad.

I just don't understand why so many women found Johnny Depp handsome, hot, or whatever words they like to use. He is so .... to me.

I think he's a great actor. He's also very humble and seem to have a great personality. He's only 5'10" and everything about him is just average. I think people like him because he gave average guys hope that you don't have to have a great body to make people swoon. Johnny Depp has a good personality, massive talents, and charisma. That is about it.

Some studies show neither men nor women find an older face attractive.

In one study, 394 men and women, of varying sexual preferences (heterosexual, bisexual, and gay), ranging in age from 16 to 73 were shown 32 pictures of people in 4 age groups. The pictures were of faces that were attractive and unattractive, smiling and neutral expression.

Result: Men and women all rated younger looking faces as more attractive.
While women didn’t rate a potential sexual partner differently than a non sexual partner, men showed a clear preference for a youthful sexual partner.

Reconsidering the double standard of aging: effects of gender and sexual orientation on facial attractiveness ratings

Sorry, I couldn't paste the graphs. There were 4 age ranges of the pictures used:
1) 18-29.9 years, 2) 30-44.9 years, 3) 45-59.9 years, 4) 60-78 years.

It happens. I don't think this is too uncommon.

He was looking for someone that was naive, would look at him in a less critical eye, and could be more easily controlled. Had this guy dated women dated women closer to his own age, I think they would have been better at deducing he wasn't what he appeared, or sold himself to be.
I have seen this a LOT, sadly enough. I know so many young women who wasted a year or 4 with an older guy who, anyone with more life experience could see, was a manipulative loser.

Part of the dynamic in those relationships is that he isolates her from her friends and family early on, so they are not around to warn her. We only find out after she leaves him.

Next time, I should just ask them if they have a son (or grandson) that they could introduce me to.
LOL, yup.
