It works the other way around too. Jack White's real surname is Gillis. He still kept his wife's last name even after they divorced.

My ex retained her married surname (mine, that is) after dissolution of our child-free marriage. She will likely retain this surname even if she remarries. Her intention seems to be to have kids with her new guy, but for the kids to carry on my surname, to continue my legacy, as it were, even if I personally insist on being child-free. And if she has a son, she might name him after me. I wonder how her new guy would react.

There's a lady in the area where I grew up who got divorced but apparently like her married name so much that she married another guy with the same last name.

Ironically, I live in another state now but work with her current husband. One of her kids works here, too, but I have no way of knowing if the kid is from the first marriage or the second.

Well, my son is In college now, and I still keep the same name. I wouldn't like having a different name from him, even now. He's my one constant.

I would love to see that change. The sole reason that I took my husband's name was to have the same name as my son, and to eliminate confusion with schools and doctors and dentists, etc.

There is only one reason I kept my ex's last name. That was to avoid people asking, "How do you spell that?" when I give my maiden name.

I didn't take my husbands name, never have understood what the point of that was. The husband kept his given last name, as did I.
