I'm not a big drinker. But I actually advise doing this. You may see a different side to them, either wanted or unwanted. Of course it helps them relax and they may be more forthcoming in telling you about themself.
Make sure you see them both sober and under the influence before deciding where to take it.
Of course if they are a alcoholic or a teetotaler it doesn't apply.
I think you'll always see a different side to someone while under the influence of alcohol. I personally, would not use it as a barometer to gauge someone's personality.

Seeing the both under the influence and sober. Its best you see both sides in knowing where to take the relationship. Because like it or not, if that person drinks its a reality you will have to deal with and on a regular basis.
I've dated girls that turn into the most talkative person in the room, saying all kinds of crazy and irrational stuff.
Not something I want to have to deal with.

This is true. A couple of weeks ago, I was on a party bus back and forth from Baltimore with a totally stocked free open bar. Let's just say in the case of one girl, she told a lot about herself that the liquor did the talking. Of course, she was a different person when I hung out with her in DC sober.
