this surprised me that the actor Sherman Hemsley (The Jeffersons and that 80's show where he was Deacon Frye) never married and never had any kids and always shied away from the public limelight and was a recluse. I am surprised because I always saw him to be the opposite and we are always talking of never marrieds/childless folks on this board

Word on the grapevine is that Hemsley was gay and had a LTR with a man. Don't exactly think that qualifies as unmarried.

I never heard that until now so I read the Wikipedia. Although it doesn't say it outright, you kinda have a feeling...
