I need someone with LOOKS and PERSONALITY and when I get a "Hi, how are you" that lets me know she has the personality of a "coffee table" LOL
She was probably a lovely, sturdy and well-designed coffee table who would complement any decor compared to yours - a cheap and flimsy cardboard box covered with a grimy plastic patio tablecloth.

At 38 years old he's been playing the online dating game ever since it was introduced but with more filters added every year. He'd probably be a lot happier if he introduced large doses of saltpeter into his diet on a regular basis.
Now I know I am not the only online who received a "Hi, How are you" as a "initial message to their profile right???
Nope, you're not. You're probably the only one who felt the need to start a message board thread to complain about it rather than just moving on, though.
Sorry, IMO that is a ridiculous judgement to make from one line. When I was doing online dating,. I learned I was wrong about premature assumptions many times. So I changed my attitude and dated with the mindset that couldn't hurt to just meet someone close by for a short meet, because you never know. I shouldn't have to jumpstart a conversation if someone replies to me first.

I don't know if you realize this or not but this is a message board for dating topics. Understand what I;m trying to explain to you?

I agree, "Hi How are you" isnt sufficient for a first message. Chat? Yes. In person? Yes. Cold approach? Yes. Inbox? No.
It is a sign of laziness or disinterest, considering you have paragraphs of info to break the ice with. You can find an opener in the first paragraph.
"Hi my name is XXX and I like to play board games in my spare time. I am looking for blah blah blah."
Good opener "what's your fave game? I like cards of humanity." or "I love playing monopoly, I am the family champ."
Only a couple more characters than Hi how are you, and you look like you read the profile.

Yes, but the idea is to post things that are unique or interesting or troubling in some way, not something everyone encounters that takes half a second to be done with. Posting a new thread about how you get messages that are too brief for your taste is like posting a thread about how your shoe comes untied sometimes or your car runs out of gas.

And really I only need a sentence asking me something about the profile that shows interest. Hi, How are you is "text talk"

Hey, why do you have a problem with cheap furniture?
I have an 8 foot long table that sits and collects dust most of the time.
However, occasionally it gets taken out and gets covered with *gasp* grimy plastic patio tablecloth! And on top of it are paper plates with the best damn grilled meats and grilled and buttered corn-on-the-cob you will ever have.

I am with you. I don't bother with any of those messages like hello, hi beautiful, what up, and any other 2-5 word reply (unless of course it is relevant to my profile).
